Okay enough about me..let’s compare some Fuji and Gold shots!!!
Same Same But Different - Or Not?
So what’s the deal with Fuji these days? I recently did a video with the help of my good friends at Ikigai Film Lab and discovered that the worst kept secret in film photography is tragically true.
A few people asked me to share the images as in the video they move at a YouTube retention friendly pace which is, way too fast. So here they are for you to gaze at and ponder…what the hell is going on with Fuji, or Kodak for that matter???
For more info and a comments section that involves almost every theory and opinion under the sun - watch my full length video below.
The Images
I’m not seeing that super vibrant red that I have from FujiC200 in the past? I’m not sure I am a fan of Kodak Gold in general though - I haven’t actually shot much of it. FujiC200 was always a go to for me and growing up I used a lot of Kodak Ultramax 400 as it was always available in Kmart and other larger stores so Gold was never really on my radar.
Go over and have a read of the comments if you want to get the full picture and see what the community have to say, it’s rather interesting…
Please feel free to comment on this newsletter too and share your thoughts with me!
Thanks for reading guys, see you in the next one.
Love Lucy xx
Interesting comparison! I almost never used color negative film. For me it was black & white negative or color reversal. And yes, we were always making comparisons! :P Ektachrome was more accurate color, but so many people liked Kodachrome's (fake/orange) color better.
I'll never forget chatting with 2 photographers one day: the first said how Fuji Provia was the greatest film ever and nothing from Kodak came close. Two hours later I was talking to another photographer who handed me a brick of 20 rolls of Provia and said, "do you want this? I can't use it! Worst color ever."
Eye of the beholder, always! Just like fine distinctions in oil paint, or hair dye.
Keep up the great work.
I miss FujiC200 (also my go-to) and this Fuji is definitely NOT IT. I don't mind Gold, but conditions have to be bright and sunny for me to really love it. I still love Ultramax but will forever be pining for FujiC200 and savouring my last couple of rolls!
