A Quick Chat With Peter From Australian Analog - ISSUE 33
A film photo contest with epic prizes + some LL updates!
A Few Things I want You To Know…
This week I bring you a little interview with an Aussie film enthusiast but before we get into that I wanted to talk a little bit about the Unstable Lights exhibition that has now wrapped up in Hamburg, Germany!
Seeing all the pictures on IG gave me some pretty epic fomo - but at the same time I am just so honored to have been a part of it. If you wanna check out a little re cap of the exhibition and soon to be online store for prints you can do that here! I will be following up more in depth about the experience in a future newsletter.
The winner of last weeks newsletter subscriber giveaway have been drawn and I’m pleased to announce the winners of the 2 prints:
Stefi Popa
Connor J. Finlayson
I have emailed you both with next steps to choosing your print and I am so excited to get them shipped to you! I will be doing more giveaways this year so make sure you are signed up and reading along so you don’t miss out.
The Head On Photo Festival is open for submission for a few more days so get in now if you have a series or work that you have been holding on to for a specific occasion. There is a fee for this one but it’s worth it I think!
There is also an open call for solo exhibition opportunities at SafeLight in Berlin so be sure to check that out here and consider putting your work forward - I will be!
One last thing…I am so blown away by the support of the community since releasing my 101 Creative Strategies For Photographers Guide and have sold over 101 copies now - which feels really amazing. Thank you!
In celebration I have a 48 hour sale on right now so you can grab the guide for just $3 and get inspired and motivated to shoot with this downloadable and print friendly resource! Sale ends in the next few hours so click the button below to get your copy!
Now we are heading into our little chat with Peter from Aus Analog, who kindly asked me, and a bunch of other photog legends to join the judging panel for the 2023 film photo contest that is FREE and way to good not enter!
I am honored to be on the panel and I cannot wait to see all the incredible work by film shooters across the country. Enjoy the chat!
Hello Peter, can you tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hi everyone! I am Peter and I run AustralianAnalog. We are a film community focused on showcasing and celebrating incredible Australian film photographers on Instagram every day! We also run an extensive film camera shop (over 100 cameras) selling a variety of film cameras like point & shoots, SLRs, rangefinders, medium formats and more! We currently have a 10% off code on our site - March10% if you’re looking for a new camera.
What was the catalyst for starting Australian Analog?Â
I started AustralianAnalog in early-2019 when I was looking for an IG film community that celebrated Aussie film photography. There were plenty of US or European focused IG pages, but none for Australia that were active or engaging. One thing led to another, and now we have one of the largest Australian film photography accounts on Instagram and are actively supporting the community with cool cameras, competitions, and film giveaways!
What is your favorite thing about living in Australia and what makes our Aussie photographers so special?
The tranquility. I absolutely adore how relaxed and calm everything is, especially when it comes to photography. I feel this also helps shape Aussie photographers with their unmatched patience. I know so many photographers who l travel 4hrs to the middle of nowhere just to sit another 3hrs waiting to take a perfect photo. Since everything is so far and sparse in Australia, I feel this has created a special skill of patience that I see in our fellow Aussie photographers.
Can you give us the details of your awesome film photography contest that is now open for submission!?! I heard the prizes are pretty sweet...
So we’ve got this epic free photography competition and open to amateur and professional photographers shooting in all forms of film photography. This year we will have both famous judges and the public deciding winners as well as $3,500 worth of prizes to be won! There will be 5 categories for film photography submissions:
Animals/Pets
Abstract
Landscape/Nature
Portrait/People
Street
This is open for any Aussie shooters over the age of 18 and finishes at 11:59pm on the 27th of March, 2023. Check it out - https://www.australiananalog.com.au/pages/australiananalog-film-photo-contest-2023
