My Go To Creative Strategy
If you follow me on IG you have likely seen me post a lot of photos that heavily feature the color red. It’s my favorite color to photograph and on film it just looks so lush!
I didn’t consciously realize I was doing this until I put together my 101 Creative Strategies Guide where I share all the prompts and tips I use to stay inspired and even pull myself out of a rut.
Just go out and shoot one color! It is so simple, like a lot of the tips in my guide, but sometimes we forget about simple ways to elevate and inspire our work, and instead make things really hard for ourselves. This can make photography feel like a whole lot of pressure rather than a fun hobby and no one wants that!
So I challenge you to go out and look for one specific color to capture next time you are shooting. This will give you a jumping off point and erase that lost feeling of not knowing what to shoot. It will also instantly give your photography a theme, some cohesion and it may even uncover something else deeper that you end up fleshing out as a series, zine or project!
Starting small like this is a great way to get back out shooting again if you have been taking some time off. A simple direction like “shoot the color yellow” can also revive your love for photography as you will quickly notice how the color you have chosen is everywhere! Trust me, once you start looking you just see that color endlessly. It really gets you in the zone and appreciating how supersizing and beautiful life can be, which for me is one of the huge positives to practicing the act of photography.
Tag me on IG if you try this and feel free to share below if you have tried this tip before.

I have done it as an assignment. I think what helped me was having a difficult problem to solve. Trying to solve it kept me out of the ditch.
A similar strategy is to shoot in color if you usually shoot bnw and vice versa
