Housekeeping
Right now I am sat on the sofa watching Nigella Lawson cook something sexy and delicious.
I considered finding a way to write about my love for Nigella and somehow finding a photography through line - which is one of my fav ways to write actually - but I’m feeling more imagey than wordy right now so instead we will look at some recent commissioned work I was lucky enough to be a part of.
Coming Soon…
I have been hard at work getting together a new resource that will help you all with the dreaded drudgery of coming up with original, fun and worthwhile content ideas for any social media platform!
I speak with a lot of artists, creatives and of course photographers online and everyone seems to be stumped with coming up with the ideas that will keep them consistent on socials.
Watch this space for the launch of that as you guys will be the first to know and there will be a little something extra to go along with it just for Substack subscribers.
What do you get when you take a Nikon L35AF, Australia’s best model, a super cool boutique brand and some Adox Scala film?
Bangers! I mean i think so at least, immodestly as that is to say.
Nikon L35AF IS KING
There is simply no denying the epicness of this point and shoot camera.
Despite it’s flaws, of which there are many, it’s so big on character it just doesn’t matter. Like an unattractive person who is really funny, it’s build quality issues just fade away and you are left with the result of it’s brilliance.
I cannot get enough of the way it darkens round the corners of the image, just adding this grungey element, that for this shoot was ramped right up, so I had no choice but to use the L35 and with great pleasure too!
The flash is unmatched. It’s so powerful. It makes the Yashica T4’s flash seem like a dimly lit candle wafting in the wind, pathetic.
The whir of the flash firing back up sounds like it’s working over time to deliver this but it never fails, always fires and looks fire too!
This image above was shot candidly from below as I was packing things up to finish the roll and i love it! Charlotte was talking to Lux and playing with her mouth and was about to walk out of frame and it just comes off so unassuming, probably because it was!
Seldom do i shoot black and white film but for this brand No Skin it is a staple in their imagery and brand tone so of course i was obliging. I did shoot colour as well and there were some great images there too, but I really love this pairing of the Adox Scala film (50 Speed film that I don’t see a lot of people talking about) and the flash from the L35AF.
Black and white with flash is such a cool look and one that i think isn’t done enough.
I know there will be readers who know more about this film stock than I do so please share your experiences below if you have any :)
I love the composition in this one and Charlotte is one of those brilliant people to shoot who just knows what looks good and is always changing it up to give you something fresh to work with. I love her long legs in shoots and the shapes she can make with her limbs as she is about 6 ft tall!
When I shoot with her I feel like I am a real life fashion photographer because she has that unique striking look that top models have!
That’s it guys. Thanks for reading and for being here. I love writing to you and it feels good to be back publishing on Substack again.
Love Lucy xx
lovely!
loved this read Lucy!
