RED RED KROOVY
For me it’s the only colour I’m hoping to stumble upon when I’m out and about shooting and it’s also a colour I’m always looking to include in my commercial work as well.
Wherever the colour red appears you are sure to see me nearby, camera ready and very happy.
My biggest fear in life has always been for someone to think I’m boring. If I knew people were walking away from an interaction with me and uttering the words “she was kind of boring” I would be so totally broken.
As a teen I found so many things boring
school
where I lived
most peoples conversations
outfits that didn’t say or speak anything (such a missed opportunity imo)
and just generally everything that the majority of people were interested in
I also just had a shitty attitude too, so maybe it was that.
I just yearn for things to stand out and POP! If I’m going to bother putting my energy into something I want it to get attention and really grab people.
To me that’s art too, art should really draw you in and envelope you with all of what it is. But then again maybe I’m just a bit extra and this is purely how I feel personally about my work and the type of work I want to see in the world.
It’s safe to say I’m obsessed and my studies in red will continue.
I want the world to see all the red that I see.
What I’m wondering is, can a single colour define your work and can it continue to define your work repeatedly over time?
All reds are not created equal so I’m looking for the perfect collection of them.
I’m always in a perpetual state of seeking red subjects and it’s starting to build up into a nice little collection that maybe one day I can do something with.
Speaking of doing things - I have been doing probably a bit too much lately and feel slightly burnt out tbh.
The end of 2024 has brought on an abundance of opportunities for my personal work which has proven quite difficult to maintain alongside the high demand for commercial work and our ever growing YouTube channel. New video that shows you my new studio and explains a little bit about what I’m working on right now for my first solo show.
I find the end of the year always brings on reflection for me and I know that I have to take something off my plate in order to sustainably move forward with all my endeavours.
Sometimes I genuinely cannot believe that we sustain our family through our photo and video work and with a Squarespace sponsorship to end the year it really felt like we had made it into the realm of “real YouTubers” who stay the course and make it their full time gig.
Dinner and my toddler are calling but I’ll be back again when time permits and hope to get back to the longer form newsletters and offer tips and guides for you on all things mindset, finding your style and my fav but everyones most loathed topic social media and the internet!
Thank you for being here and I’ll see you over on YouTube and Instagram :)
Love Lucy xx
I love this idea of using color as a major motif in your work. I’m going to look at my work through that lens and see what it inspires. There have been many photos I’ve taken and thought to myself “that is Lucy Lumen red” so it’s definitely working for you. Keep up the amazing work! Thanks for all the inspiration
