I'm Launching a Monthly Book Club!
Join me in July for community, connection and the joy of reading!
Hello everyone!
In a bid to cut down on mine, and your, screen time, and commit to finishing a book a month I am kicking off a monthly book club in my paid subscription.
Of course you are welcome to read this book as a free subscriber too and simply enjoy a regular reading habit. However if you want to access the following to go along with it, then upgrade now to be ready for July’s book of the month.
Paid subscribers get…
An exclusive monthly audio newsletter covering all things creativity, building an online career, confessions, mindset and a more intimate in depth audio experience with me.
The option to ask me questions about anything - I will cover as many I have time for in each monthly episode (a wonderfully affordable way to get specific insights from me) .
Monthly book club - this will be covered at the end of each audio episode and I will break down key takeaways, what I learned, liked/didn’t and chat with you in the comments and group chat about your thoughts.

July’s Book - Create Dangerously by Albert Camus
“Camus argues passionately that the artist has a responsibility to challenge, provoke and speak up for those who cannot in this powerful speech, accompanied here by two others.”
The subheading of this book “the power and responsibility of the artist” and this is what got me interested. Will this take on an artist’s responsibility in the world, published decades ago, still be relevant today?
My reasons for choosing this tiny book were:
It’s only a few dollars and easy to order online - do check your local library or secondhand bookstore though
This guy is pretty famous if you like books
It’s very short which means it won’t overwhelm you in this first month of book club - we will work our way up to bigger texts once we’ve all had that motivating satisfaction of finishing a whole book
Lux bought it for me recently and it’s been on my desk just waiting patiently
If you are unfamiliar with Albert Camus then the this video by The School Of Life will be a great introduction.
I have only read one of his books “The Outsider” and the only reason I read it is because when I was about 14 someone told me that the song “Killing an Arab” by The Cure was inspired by this book and that made me curious.
To be honest I think I could do with a Camus refresh in my older years but I feel called to this short book of speeches/essays as I’m diving more and more into the topic of what it means to be an artist today and how we can navigate that.
You’ve got time to grab this little book and join us!
I’ll be sharing my thoughts and chatting with you in the comments etc. in the last week of July when I send the monthly audio newsletter.
I’ll also announce August’s book of the month in the fourth week of July in a public post so you can sign up and join us if you feel called to.
I have so many books on my reading list right now. Below are a few so you can get a vibe check for the sort of books we will cover throughout the rest of 2025.
And remember, a yearly subscription gets you two months free so it’s a much more economical way to join.
I also wanted to share these incredibly encouraging and heartwarming notes from recent paid subscribers. What a lovely supportive community there is here on Substack, thank you!
I’m so excited to be offering this extra content here on Substack and fully focusing on the platforms that enrich my life and provide real connection and community.
Catch you in July for bookclub and don’t forget there is an audio episode from this month just waiting for you behind the paywall.
Stay Creative
Love Lucy xx
Great idea! I’ve been reading some of the books you mentioned in your videos and it’s really cool to hear what you take from them. Sharing with others will definitely be pretty cool!
