Housekeeping
Hiya! It’s Newsletter time and this week I am sharing a couple of things to inspire you.
Before we get into the inspo though I want to take a second to thank everyone who has chosen to work with me over the last few months. I have had two really amazing coaching calls this week, both centering around the goal of making a side hustle, or part time living out of your photography!
I love this topic and I know many of you reading want photography to remain your hobby, and that is ah okay with me, but I really think we are living in a time where even just earning a little extra on the side from your creativity can be a super fun experience that fuels your passion, rather than killing it.
In fact some of my favourite shoots lately have been for clients and I absolutely adore the concepting stage and delivering them something they go nuts for AND is useful too!
Someone who is killing it at the moment is Ashley, aka Film Mums, and I was lucky enough to have a session with her recently and love seeing her thriving with film, super 8 and camcorder footage for clients! Here is what Ash had to say after our 1:1 session…
“Thank you Lucy for my 1:1 session with you! I’m just blown away how much I got out of my session in just one hour. I’ve left feeling more clarity, direction and motivation with my business. I’m excited to dive deeper with film and feeling more confident. Thank you for your on going support even after our coaching call. Can’t wait to chat again”

If you are interested to learn more about these sessions and what is involved you can read more here. If you are feeling unsure whether this is the right thing for you, want to know more about the process or have a question, hit the button below to email me! We can even hop on a quick call to see if this is the right fit for both of us too - don’t be shy, come say hello and let me know your photo goals and dreams and have a chat!
Photography Adjacent Inspiration
Last week my son was super unwell (he is fine now) and this resulted in a lot of what we call “couch time” which involves his fav shows and cuddles with mum or dad, normally dad because I suck at sitting doing nothing - #badmum. After many days of this routine mum and dad were pretty sick of Disney plus and every single show that has ever existed about dinosaurs, so we chucked on some good old YouTube instead.
We came across this AMAZING documentary below and surprisingly Luca didn’t complain once. Maybe we have a future pro skater on our hands here??
Now even if you have no interest in skateboarding you will likely enjoy this because it’s about a camera, well a video camera to be precise and it’s got HUGE digicam vibes! This VX1000 Video Camera is legendary and the way everyone talks about it’s “shitty” quality and the nostalgia and the feel and the vibez and just the whole thing is so akin to the way we all talk about film and vintage digital!
I’m not gonna go into too much more detail because you can just watch the video, but this just made me feel like getting up off the couch and going doing something COOL! Skateboarding is literally at the centre of every cool thing out there and even though I don’t know the names of the tricks, nor do I have any urge to do it myself I have never come across anything in my life that has had such an all encompassing effect on me than skateboarding.
Long live the VX1000 - I want one after watching this and I bet you will too!
SWILL MAG
I love a magazine! I am aware we are basically in a recession right now and magazines are most certainly a luxury, but this one is the most luxurious of them all and gives you some much needed screen free time to pour over each page and photo inside SWILL MAGAZINE!
It’s for food lovers, art lovers, weirdos, wine nerds and everyone in between. If you love anything that is a little unusual or off kilter you will have your head buried in these beautifully thick pages within the first paragraph - I promise!
For me magazines are a little treat and a way for me to unwind but be inspired at the same time so I think it’s an investment for my wellness, sanity and feeds my creativity too. SWILL also looks damn fine on your coffee table and will no doubt make you look like the coolest person at your local café - I mean come on check out that cover art!
I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One
I love a good magazine but I also love a good album that is a banger from start to finish. It’s harder and harder to find albums that are stellar the whole way through - or maybe I’m just getting old??
This Yo La Tengo album “I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One” is one hell of a listen. It’s a real journey, with each track sounding a little different but also cohesive at the same time. I’m actually listening to it right now as I write to you all and it’s my go to album for when I’m writing, scripting, making a list, working on something new, doing a portfolio review, planning or literally anything that involves being at my computer.
Admittedly I am not a computer person and I yearn to be up and about doing things and sitting down drives me insane but it’s becoming more and more necessary as time goes on. I enjoy the work. I just wish I didn’t have to be stationary while doing it. Maybe I need one of those standing desks Caleb from Bad Flashes has??
Anyway, this album puts me in the zone and I’ve played it so much now that I am kind of like conditioned to just get shit done when I hear it.
Stand out tracks are Sugarcube, Little Honda (beach boys cover) and of course Autumn Sweater. I love the many jammy tracks on it as well though and dig how off track they go in that carried away Sonic Youth style. Nice.
Do you have an album like this in your life that you chuck on when there is a task at hand? I would love to know!
A few weeks ago the band actually picked out some movies in the criterion closet which is another fav series of mine on YT so why not add that to the rotation this weekend too!
Thanks for reading guys. I love writing this newsletter and sharing things with you. See you in the next one.
