Hello everyone!
I’m coming in with an off schedule Substack here because I wanted to share some images from a recent night adventure with the new TT Artisan 23mm AF 1.8 Lens that I was able to try out before it’s release.
If you’ve been following along closely you will know that I am really embracing my XE-1 as an EDC and it’s gotten even better with the addition of the KEKS KF-01 Flash attached.
I’ve been rocking the 27mm 2.8 pancake lens for the last couple of months and I love how flush it makes the whole set up, I love my limited edition yellow and red version too… but it’s a bit hard too focus in low light so I was pleased to try something faster.
If you want to see this new lens in action out in the busy streets of the Gold Coast at night then check out the video below. It’s full of absolute synthy bangers from Lux too! The rain and humidity was not kind to my poor hair though - please don’t judge.
If you aren’t quite ready to watch, or maybe you’ve already watched but you want a closer look at the images, then you’ve come to the right place.
I was unsurprisingly drawn to all my usual subjects and I am loving the easy breezy nature of shooting digital and not having to ask myself is this “the shot” and instead just having fun in the moment and enjoying the fact that I’m just taking photos. After all thats what it’s all about right?!?
Can’t go past some unusual growth happening in an urban landscape. I love the way flash makes things look artificial. I noticed the autofocus was hunting around a lot less with this 1.8 lens so made it a bit easier shooting in such low light.
We have been trying to have a date night once a week, which turns into photo night, which is totally fine.
We grab dinner and then just walk around taking photos and enjoying being creative purely for fun. Sometimes we see a movie too and take photos afterwards which is like my dream situation!

I always get questions about how we shoot digital. I usually shoot RAW and then apply my warm film preset which makes reds sing! This makes shooting digi easy and avoids too much post processing and more screen time.

I’m really vibing this like eerie, alien, blown out weird angle flash look lately. We might need to get a more concise name for this look (haha) but I just love making things in the world look abstract and interesting via the way I photograph it.
I like to think I can be in any situation and find something interesting to capture. I try and stay sharp by always avoiding the parts where everyone would normally photograph and head down the ally ways, car parks and back streets.

So that’s it from me guys. I hope this inspires you to have a date night, make some synth tracks, grab a new lens or try out flash and just HAVE FUN!
If you are wanting to make 2025 the year of the flash then you can use the code Lucy at checkout to get 10% of the KEKS KF-01 Retro Flash Unit.
You can also now shop the just dropped 23mm 1.8 AF Lens from TT Artisan an if you do let me know what you think or share your images on socials with me! I would love to see :)

Having stumbled onto your YouTube channel at the start of the year AND knowing you’re on the Gold Coast, then finding you here on Substack makes my heart sing. The way you view the world through your lenses intrigues me and helps me see things that I previously would have dismissed. In a world filled with *sameness* thanks for being you.
