Hey ho let’s go! I’m like a girl Ramone in this pic don’t ya think?
Turns out teen dreams do come true…
Other (kind of less cool) dreams came true this month too, in the form of YouTube sponsorship from the company who basically keep all photography YouTubers in the game and that is SquareSpace baby!!
I never thought I would be in partnership with them but here we are 160 YouTube videos, 3 years later and I’m bloody stoked.
I have some fun videos in store for you all and the photo walk episodes will continue. I couldn’t be happier to have YouTube as part of my creative work. You can see the latest episode below.
It goes without saying that if you need a website it’s gotta be with SquareSpace and when I signed up for mine a year ago I was faced with the difficult choice of deciding which film photography YouTubers promo code I would use (I chose Grainydays) for 10% off…
Basically what I’m saying is now you have code LUCYLUMEN to throw in the hat for a discount, or you can visit this link to start a free trial and see what you think before making the ultimate choice between me and Jason…LOL just kidding.
I have made some more changes to my website recently and added in new professional and modelling work so go check it out if you need some website inspo.
Boy Shoots Girl
Lux is probably best at photographing people.
He has such an impeccable understanding of light (I embarrassingly lack this fundamental skill) and although he isn’t overly social and he def doesn’t get the subject talking, he takes a damn good portrait.
Many jobs have required his skills when camera shy business owners need head shots for PR or we end up working with a backlit sitch that is tricky to nail.
At family events he always takes the most amazing photos and everyone feels like a million dollars post event when they receive these beautiful, soft and emotionally provoking vignettes of the afternoon or evening.
Basically if you flicked through my hard drive or any photo album it would seem like lux didn’t even exist, which is kind of really shit tbh and totally on me, but I guess I just love having my photo taken so much it always seems to take precedent. #guilty
After some weirdo comments and a few confused people wondering “why the hell you sell photos of yourself when you are a photographer?” I ended up taking this section down from my print shop.
I let the haters get in my head and I decided I needed to just sell my photos in order to be a “real artist” (whatever the fuck that means) and that these photos were just the fun thing and not the thing I should be putting up for sale and showing I’m proud of.
Wrong.
These are part of my artistic expression and practice and it’s the perfect amalgamation of mine and Lux’s skills and passions.
So why the hell wouldn’t it be included in my body of work on the print shop!?
So the Lucy On Film collection is back and features a curated selection of our favs from the last few years.
Complete with notes from Lux on gear used and additional info on the making of the image, so even if you aren’t in the market for a banger print, you just want to nosey at his process, then head over and have a look around.
A popular one is this double exposure below which just came out so cool!
Going through this work made me so inspired to keep making more work with Lux that is both candid and spontaneous but also stylised shoots that we can plan and really get intentional with.
So watch this space!
If you happen upon an image you love you can use the code LUCYONFILM at checkout and get 15% OFF any print order.
Knowing our work is in your hands and homes makes us so happy, so thank you to everyone who has purchased the last few years and the repeat customers who come back and shop each new collection.
Everything I do on the internet is made better and more cherished by people like you who read these words, watch our videos and appreciate the work we put into these endeavours. THANK YOU :)
Love Lux & Lucy
