This is very timely having just returned from Reykjavík, a city with so much to see and people everywhere, to my unassuming suburban/rural adjacent midwestern town.

Limitation breeds creativity. We just need to get out of our own way sometimes.

Love your writing. Two pictures, side by side. But I’m not sure the Pentax 17 could cope with the Gold Coast or photograph surf.

Hey Lucy :) I agree with you that there is a focus on certain geographies in the film photography world and it's interesting (at times disheartening) to see where brands focus their marketing efforts, I wish there was more in other areas (and a greater variety too, not just the same as always), especially AUS where there are so many amazing creators!

Hey Miss Molly! This is exactly how I feel, you've hit the nail on the head! It makes our film community seem small or boiled down to just a few places and people but in reality it's very diverse and it is disheartening not to see that come through when there is such an exciting new announcement! I hope you are keeping well my love and thank you for your always on point and amazing input. xx

Lucy this was such a great read. It seems as you have become the celebrity in Australia. Your content and channels are growing so much that I'm sure you're inspiring other photographers that will come behind you and attend your "Beers and Cameras" events. The realization your older self has had about the surroundings in which you shoot is one to behold. I love in New York City and it's a bit opposite here. I sometime find myself trying to recreate things I've seen in books from the heavyweights who have photographed NYC. Plus there is a million street photographers in every major place to visit in New York, which is why your work sticks out to me. You're the reason I started to look into to Eggelston and Shore. It's fun to take pictures of some stacked up chairs, empty pain cans as it gives a different perspective of things we capture. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you Lance! Yes I imagine it's a lot of pressure living somewhere like NYC that has such a strong history of brilliant photographers. It seems whichever way we look at it or wherever we are located there will always be a pro and a con. I love that I led you to looking at Eggelston and Shore they are both pioneers in their style and at the time it would have been so break out to be taking photos the way they were! Thank you for reading and for your kind words :)

Hi Lucy,

Aren't YOU the Film Photography Celeb in Australia??? I have watched Grainy Days but not nearly as much as your content, and I have not heard of Miss Pendelton.

I bet if you announced the Aussie Beers and Cameras meet-up, it would be huge! Take it on tour from state to state.

Hey Tom, Thanks so much haha I'm blushing over here. Jason's channel is great and you should check out Taylor Pendleton as she does a lot of travel stuff lately so good fun!

I have toyed with the idea of doing some physical meet up thing here but we are all spread so thin and the Gold Coast doesn't have as many photogs as Melbourne or Sydney, but maybe I'm wrong! Thanks for reading and i apprecite this nice comment :)

Love this Lucy! I have to admit that I feel the same about photography since moving to New Jersey out of NYC! Thanks for the amazing inspiration!

Oh yes you would be feeling this more than most Matt! Having been in NYC and walking around there everyday is hard to compete with but I hope this shift in viewing your surroundings is helpful. Keep me posted. Thanks for reading and hope you and the fam are well xx

If it makes you feel any better, many of us in SoCal always talk about how much better it seems in Australia! The grass is always greener…

Well written as always Lucy. You have created your own distinct style as a photographer and creative. It is summer here in NY now, and the beaches are bustling. You have inspired me quite a bit these past couple of years in my own creative endeavors. Your in depth critiques has helped me improve my stills photography, which is different yet has bits of similarities in my filmmaking style. Australia deserves to be seen as a place of a creative oasis. It shows from what I've seen in many of your photos and videos.
