Cars On Film
What is it about vintage cars shot on film?
It’s the double hit of nostalgia.
It’s the bright colours of the cars and the way that film renders them.
It’s the appreciation for form and design that so many of us film shooters also have.
It’s the classic and cool factor.
It’s the halation of the metal.
And it’s the fact that they look great printed and on a wall!
Your wall!
Well maybe if you felt so inclined, if you don’t that’s fine too.
It’s still hell of a lot nicer looking at the images uncompressed and uncropped on Substack rather than Instagram right?
So whether you enjoy these car images on the screen or on your wall, I hope they inspire you to get out and photograph some soon!
Imagine doing a fashion photo shoot with this car! It would be straight outta Wild At Heart or True Romance. My dream!
I shoot a local classic car festival every year. It’s a tradition and I love that I don’t have to sneak around or ask the owner. I can just fully go for it and photograph to my hearts content, being very careful whilst doing so of course.
I love the interiors of the cars and how colourful they are, I mean come on look at this colour below, shoot a colour like this on film and it truly feels like a time warp!
So all prints are currently 15% off but only till tomorrow so depending on when you read this you will need to get moving so you don’t miss out.
Halation lovers this one below is for you. Shot on Cinestill 400D.
I love to see old things in this AI world we are living in, it just reminds me that there are still people out there that value aesthetic but still functional things. Seeing all the cars out in full force together like this makes the streets seems like a scene from American Graffiti and it feels like a movie…my favourite feeling.
I would love to know when the last time you shot classic cars was?
I know if I see one in the wild I get really excited and I always see it as a good sign on a photo walk too, like as if this car is egging me on to keep searching for beautiful things.
To see my best of the best Cars On Film collection shot over the last 3 years then head to the print shop and browse through.
I have been selling prints for the last 2 years or so now and it’s hands down the best feeling ever when someone likes your work enough to purchase it so a big thank you to those of you who have grabbed one in the past, and those that do now in this little 15% off sale.
I sold 2 prints at an art book fair in Germany via a publishing company called The Hidden River the other week. I’m so stoked that my work is able to reach a global audience not just online but in person at an event!
Here’s to printed work and it’s future.
Thanks for reading guys. I’ll be back with a longer piece next time.
Love Lucy xx
Hi Lucy! I have been slacking horribly on my film photography for a while now and I’m ready to get back to it. I have never actually shot classic cars before but there is going to be a music festival/classic hot rod show right in my town soon that we are planning a little family outing to and after reading this now I’m thinking maybe I’ll shoot some of the cars there! Your posts here have been inspiring me to get myself out and start shooting ASAP! 😊
Hey Lucy, nice stuff. This is the first time I have commented but I follow your site and I believe I have to say thank you for many of the recommendations to my site. I think that’s very nice.
