Good advice, all my favorite artists are "serious" rule-breakers. Some are plain nuts! Transgression is important in art, even when delicate sensibilities get bruised. Just watched a most-wacko Harmony Korine film/video called Trash Humpers. And there's a nice little Hasil Adkins doc here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll83NJuQ0Q0
Yes! Transgression is so important in art! Love that you are a Harmony Korine fan - Trash Humpers is wild and so weird just like Harmony himself! Thanks for reading I'll check out this link :)
Nice one, Lucy. I love pulling out this quote from Ansel “The Big Dawg” Adams: “There are no rules for good pictures, just good pictures.” Oh, and pointing out that Oskar “Daddy Leica” Barnack would have wept tears of joy if someone fell through a wormhole in time/space and let him try out their iPhone.
Following up on an Alan Watts thread from YouTube, I think... It's *all* just play and it seems silly at best for people to get themselves fired up in their gatekeeping over what amounts to entertainment. We are so in our heads that we lose track of the fact that personal preference is not objective truth. Gatekeeping in photography is just one example out of many, but this sort of delusion we all have to some extent--our steadfast identification with (or even *as*) whatever dumbass random thoughts cross our minds--leads only to our own unhappiness and often to the unhappiness of others.
i love this post, agree with just about everything especially the canon rebel g that i’ve recently started using after sitting on my shelf for three years.

As always, live and let live! The 11th rule really hit me. Great read.
Could not agree more. Best wishes and keep up the good work.
