As an engineer by day Perfection is a bit baked in (otherwise, things just don't work as they should - they might alright, but not what a clients wants ;), so it's sometimes difficult to do the opposite in photography (which I do mostly during the day as well, but you get the idea).
But I'm working on that - just to let go and tell myself 'done now with editing this image'. Anyway great read! Well worth to re-read it again every now and then for extra encouragement👍
Now getting back to my back catalog of 15 years of photo's ...
I always have to remind myself and others to be hard on yourself but never down on yourself. Also along with perfection I've run into several people that stop short because they haven't developed a style. Maybe I've never thought too hard about it but I'm not sure I have a describable style. I do hate being placed in a box and to me that is what having style can become. Shoot, have fun and try to have the next roll of film be a bit better
You are absolutely right, perfectionism can kill everything. We have to find the courage to put all this aside and potentially accept our failures!
You have an amazing skill of articulating those nuances that bounce around an artists brain. Great article Lucy
